![]() ![]() It's clear and bright, and the tach readouts are more stable than a silly high resolution readout which always jumps around eg. The red LED display is actually better than a BS backlit multifunction LCD screen. This is a kind of quick buzzing (or very fast flashing) of the zenon tube, and a feature I now like. ![]() With the light flashing the 'torch' function can still be operated to get a SAFER look at the surroundings (esp. This way you can never have advance dialled in by mistake. The timing light flashes while the display reads advance OR the display reads tach while the light doesn't flash. This gun has no trigger, but the controls are thumb operated instead. The 'torch' function is strange to explain, but is actually very nice in use. The beam is more square shaped than on some other lights and also covers a slightly bigger area. No more worries about bright days, and it's chalk versus cheese better than any self-powered light. In operation, the light is particularly bright. Actually, unlike some other lights which need to have their leads removed to get them into a case, this OTC light goes into the fitted case with plenty of room with its leads attached :-) The case also has proper hinges and catches, rather than just cheap bendy rubbish snap clips. Using things the way they were intended to be used, usually yields better results for longer. Lights also should never be suspended by their leads, pretty basic stuff. IMO the metallic spring around the cable connector is not so much of a strain relief and the connector body itself should always be gripped when removing the leads, rather than the cable or the spring. There is no green coil wire to worry about or to get in the way (Dwell is a seldom needed feature these days because of breaker-less ignition systems), and the light has a very positive cable connector (far better than Innova). the leads on my 3367, they are a sensible length, have good but not great alligator clips and a well sprung inductive pick up. These lights are mass produced electronics and plastic, and no doubt receive improvements occasionally. ![]() His review was also posted over three years ago, so I can't rule out the possibility that OTC have since corrected the issue he spoke about. I don't want to clash with the earlier reviewer who said all his mates own one and they are all unhappy with theirs, BUT it's hard to read his review as a bad vote from all of them when in reality it is not. Sensible leads and a hard storage case can't hurt either. It is sometimes difficult to know before buying a light, about the optics like the beam shape or brightness, or the display like whether it will be easy to see or read, or if the pickup will actually work dependably on most vehicles without intermittent problems. Good lights are the ones which work well in practice! Technically, no timing lights actually come with real 'specifications' as such. but this OTC is still a lot brighter and more convenient, as well as significantly cheaper to buy. BluePoint sells a rebadged Innova light at a much higher price. They are almost all made in China, so don't worry about American build quality for a timing light, not like a spanner at all. Big brand names like Snap On don't necessarily work any better at all! This OTC may cost more than most lights on Amazon, but it's good value indeed compared with a Snap On or an MSD. The better lights usually have simple features but still manage to work better than more glamorous models. One can get too carries away with advertised features on timing lights, some of which are actually unimportant. OTC makes a nice range of cost effective and very practical tools. The OTC3367 is not perfect (none are), but it is still one of the best on the market, regardless of price! To begin with, it is a whole lot brighter than the Innova 5568. I have been using xenon timing lights for almost thirty years, and currently own four quite different ones. ![]()
